Though you might associate commercial vehicles with diesel engines, it doesn't always have to be the case. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced a new range of petrol engines for Caddy and Caravelle models.
The new Euro 6 petrol engine range will consist of the 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0 TSI engines already found in the Volkswagen car range. The largest engine will only be available on the Caravelle SE short wheelbase model, in 148hp and 201hp versions and equipped with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG respectively.
For Caddy and Caddy Life models, you can opt for the 82hp 1.2, a 100hp 1.0 or the 122hp 1.4. The former two engines exclusively use a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.4 can be selected with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG.
After the Transporter, the Caddy is already Volkswagen's second best-selling commercial vehicle and comes with a significant amount of standard equipment. DAB radio with Bluetooth compatibility makes it a great day-to-day vehicle, while standard Post-Collision Braking system helps out should the worst happen. You can also specify options more familiar to cars than commercials, such as High Beam Assist, City Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.
The Caddy has a generous 4.2 cubic metre load capacity, while the Caddy Life offers seating for up to seven occupants or, with folding, double-folding and removable seats, a load space of up to 3,030 litres. The Caddy Maxi Life adds another 340 litres, thanks to the 420mm longer body. The Caravelle SE has twin sliding doors as standard, providing easy access for passengers and luggage, while rail mounted seats give flexible and comfortable seating for up to six passengers.
Prices will start from £13,610 for Caddy panel van, £15,110 for Caddy Life and £28,950 for Caravelle SE.
