When it comes to apprenticeships, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is far less "You're fired!" and much more "You're hired!".
Volkswagen Group employs nearly 900 apprentices across all branches of the businesses, with 90 employed in the 96 Van Centres and Authorised Repairers across the UK.
Forty-five new apprentices joined the VW Commercial Vehicles apprentice scheme at an annual induction event in Milton Keynes, the location of Volkswagen's National Learning Centre.
The apprenticeship programme at Volkswagen is designed to train and develop apprentices to keep pace with technology. It provides an opportunity to achieve formal qualifications while also in full-time employment, training the apprentices in products across the Volkswagen range. VW provides vehicles, training rigs, tools and materials to ensure the training is relevant to current products. Volkswagen's own special technical trainers also deliver product specific courses, to keep apprentices up-to-date with Volkswagen's latest technology.
At the end of the residential course, apprentices will attain an NVQ Level 3, an IMI Technical Certificate, an Advanced Apprenticeship Completion Certificate and Key and Core Skills Certificates relevant to their chosen specialist area.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers apprentice programmes for Service Technicians and Parts and Service Advisors, with courses running for either two or three years.
The induction day at Milton Keynes provides an opportunity to experience the Volkswagen National Learning Centre for the first time, with the new apprentices meeting fellow recruits and other apprentices already on the program.
