High-spec Volkswagen Scirocco GTS to make Shanghai debut

As a follow-up to its recent facelift, the Volkswagen Scirocco has been given the GTS treatment and will receive its global debut at the Shanghai motor show next week.

The new GTS variant of the Scirocco sees the two-door coupe get a plethora of visual upgrades and additions, while keeping its Golf GTI-derived turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, offering 217bhp as a result.

The GTS moniker has been used once before on the iconic Scirocco model, back in 1982, and just like this reincarnation was related to the Golf GTI of the time, both visually and technically, so too will this variant.

On the outside of the new Scirocco GTS, as well as the R-Line package, you will find brand new 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, black door mirrors and the optional GTS decal down the centre of the car, which can also be accompanied by a pair of red or black stripes across the bonnet and roof.

Entering the cabin, the GTS features many bespoke elements, including GTS badges on the sills, steering wheel and seats. Also on show is the legendary golf ball-style gearknob, plus red seams on the seatbelts, handbrake, arm rests, floor mats and steering wheel.

Meanwhile, the dashboard offers a variety of piano black details and the window and mirror switches are finished in chrome. However, the focal point is Volkswagen’s new, second-generation modular infotainment matrix available on this car for the first time.

The new Scirocco GTS will be available in six colours: ‘Deep Black’, ‘Indium Grey’, ‘Urano Grey’, ‘Pure White’, ‘Oryx White’ and ‘Flash Red’.
