3D Smart Glasses at Wolfsburg
Modern vehicle manufacturing facilities are amongst the most advanced factories in the world, filled with advanced tech - some of which might surprise.

Following a successful 3-month trial at the main Wolfsburg plant, 3D smart glasses are now being used as standard equipment for plant logistics personnel.

The smart glasses effectively provide a technological bridge between the humans who wear them and the systems behind stock location and picking, making the process even less prone to error.

Using the 3D glasses is voluntary and employees who opt to use the tech require a short training process and acclimatisation period. Around 30 employees are using the technology in various areas at Wolfsburg and it has been so well received that other areas, other plants and even the other brands in the Volkswagen family are intending to use it too.

With the smart glasses, users have both of their hands free while they are working. Information they need, such as storage locations or part numbers, is displayed directly in their field of vision.

The camera in the glasses acts as a barcode reader, displaying incorrect products in red and correct ones in green to ensure the right parts are removed. Touch or voice control means that they are simple to use.
